Ending India’s Rape Culture

  Summary-

A 23-year old physiotherapy student is dead, because she was raped. She was travelling on a bus, when suddenly she was raped by six men. They had inserted a rod into her private area which had caused internal injuries due to the iron rod. People, many angry people, are mad that nothing is being done for the women’s safety. Women in India are not in safe conditions. The people in India think that it is due to what they wear, which is not true.

   Analysis-

Naomi Wolf has chosen a really good topic, but she is lacking something that could help the women, and the audiences understand what the 23-year old had actually went through and what lead to this issue on how it had occurred. The author should’ve given advices to the women on what they should do when they are in a difficult situation like the 23-year old. She should’ve given examples of ways to protect yourself like carrying a pepper spray in your spray, having a male escort that you can trust on, etc. This story is very important because, it may not seem like a major situation to the USA or some other parts of the country, but people out in the should know that in India and other parts of the world, the safety of women isn’t that well. This story’s issue could affect me in the future because my parents are from a similar country just like India called Bangladesh, and one day in the future I will go to Bangladesh and will have to go to places either by myself or with one of my cousins, and makes me think that not everywhere in this world is safe. Its sad how the life women in India and other parts of the world have to deal with this and not have the freedom to do things that us women and girls are able to do in the US and some other parts of the world. It also makes me upset because it shows that women don’t really have that much power and are not cared for somewhat. Women are the women’s who basically built up this planet and some are being treated as trash, animals and worthless in some countries like India. I personally know some stories that have occurred. In Bangladesh my cousin’s best friend was raped by her brother’s gang about 5 years ago. She is now 26 and her parents are trying to look for a decent for her in her life, but they can’t because she was used. She told me once that, “I literally wish that I would die, but I can’t. I have a family to look after.” Her parents are ashamed of her and the society blames it all on her. She also ended up pregnant, but had a miscarriage. She was torn into pieces. I have also recently read on yahoo news that this girl, who was in her young, was raped by 3 men in India. This story is very important to the world because it needs to be told what’s going on out in the world to women. It is not fair how women don’t have protection when they need it the most in India and other parts of the world that need it tremendously.
